FAQs

Question What is a Recruitment Host?
Answer
Recruitment Hosts welcome prospective students and athletes and their families to The Ohio State University. They also share their Ohio State experience during admissions event days, on student panels, and at home game Saturdays and practices. Hosts are an integral part of the visit experience here at Ohio State and help prospective students figure out if Ohio State is the right place for them.
Question What roles do Recruitment Hosts hold on admissions event days?
Answer
On event days, Recruitment Hosts can hold many different roles — like interacting with visiting families and sharing their Ohio State experience on student panels, residence hall tours, downtown bus tours and more!
Question Is this fun or a lot of work?
Answer
It's both. In this role, you'll get to be part of the recruitment process and hopefully bring some future Buckeyes to our campus. It's a lot of fun to be on the field, have front row seats at home football games and get to watch practices, but Hosts are also expected to be the best professional representatives of the university. Gamedays are long days — you might miss out on some cool things outside the stadium, but you'll get experiences other students don't have. Knowing that your work helps the university, future student athletes and the football team is worth it, though.
Question Do I need to know a lot about football?
Answer
You need to know (or learn the basics) about college football, football positions, Ohio State’s football team and how recruiting works. We can teach you these things, but it's also helpful to do some research on your own. When you mingle with a prospective student athlete wide receiver, we don't want you to talk to him about what it's like to be a punter. Those are two totally different roles! We’ll help make sure you know everything you need, too.
Question Where are the Recruitment Hosts seats on gameday?
Answer
Hosts currently sit in section 13AA, rows 1-2. It’s a great front row view of the north end zone on the home side. Hosts cannot sit in other sections of the stadium. Our seating area is chosen to be near the recruit guests — plus it's a nice perk of the role!
Question Should I still purchase student football tickets?
Answer
Hosts can purchase season tickets, but you'll still be required to sit in the Host section during games.

**Please note: To purchase a bowl game ticket, you need to follow instructions from the Athletic Ticket Office. This typically consists of purchasing a season ticket.
Question Will I need to memorize a bunch of NCAA rules?
Answer
No. Hosts are trained on specific NCAA recruitment and gameday activity rules. Our university’s compliance department is always available to answer any questions. They make sure that the recruits are following their rules and that we are following our rules.
Question How much of the game do I actually get to watch?
Answer
Hosts get to experience in the stadium:
  • On the field for pre-game practice and warm up
  • Band ramp entrance
  • Kickoff (70 percent of the time)
  • First quarter (70 percent of the time)
  • Second quarter
  • Third quarter (90 percent of the time)
  • Fourth quarter
Hosts unfortunately miss out on:
  • The band halftime show
  • Singing "Carmen Ohio" in the stands. You'll sing it on the field with recruits instead.
Question Do I have to work every home football game?
Answer
Depending on the size of our team, we may be able to grant off-game requests based on seniority and class rank. The ability to grant off-game requests is determined ahead of each football season by the Recruitment Host leadership team.
